Individuals requesting the services of a Notary Public must present, at the time of services, one of the following documents. Identification MUST BE VALID, NOT EXPIRED.
A Notary Public is a public official appointed by the California Secretary of State to be an impartial witness in the signing of important documents. Each Notary Public must attend a full day seminar, pass a written exam, submit fingerprints, pass a background check conducted by Homeland Security and purchase a bond.
Notarization prevents fraud. A Notary Public will ensure that the signer of a document is who they claim to be by that person producing credible identification. A Notary is also responsible to ensure the signer is aware of what is being signed and is not being coerced in any way.
